Skiing in Hokkaido — FAQ
- When is the best time for Hokkaido powder?
- Mid-January through early February is peak — coldest air, most frequent storms, deepest base. Late December and late February are still excellent. Avoid early December (variable) and late March (warming).
- Is "Niseko" one resort?
- No — Niseko is a destination with four separate ski areas on the same massif: Hanazono, Grand Hirafu, Village, and Moiwa. Conditions are similar across all four; pick by terrain preference.
- How much snow does Hokkaido get?
- Most major Hokkaido resorts average 10–15 meters (33–50 feet) of snowfall per season, with Niseko and Kiroro often topping that. SnowSure displays the season-to-date total on each resort page.
